WHSA/NJ Elite Club President, Frank Sena was selected as the NYJS Volunteer of the Year
On Friday, February 3rd New Jersey Youth Soccer hosted it’s 2023 Annual Awards where Watchung Hills Soccer Association President, Frank Sena was honored with the Liesel Krehan Volunteer of the Year Award. The award is presented to an individual “…who serves as a great role model to the soccer community while also demonstrating a willingness to promote the game through their actions and individual character.”
The awards banquet was attended by over 1,000 members of the New Jersey soccer community and was hosted by NBC News 4 correspondent, Jen Maxfield. NJ/NY Gotham FC Defender and New Jersey native, Kristen Edmonds delivered the keynote address.
When asked about the honor of being chosen, he stated…
“In my over 20 years of experience with youth soccer I have passionately believed that the keys to success are i) treating every player with respect, ii) providing every player with the right level of competition at the right stage of their development and iii) developing model citizens as well as soccer players. Players trust us to help them reach their fullest potential while parents trust us to provide a safe and respectful environment for their children to learn. My passion and energy for volunteerism come from working in an organization that emphasizes the development of the whole person rather than seeing players as sources of revenue or judges their value by wins or hardware. Soccer challenges us to succeed through teamwork, effort and a drive to improve. I firmly believe these skills are transferable off the field and will help our players become productive members of society. I am proud to be part of an organization that affords me the opportunity to pursue these beliefs as well as work with like-minded individuals.”
In addition to the award, Frank’s accomplishment will be memorialized in a paver as part of WHSA’s recent Duderstadt upgrade paver initiative.
Thank you, Frank, for all you do for the club, and congratulations.
